Tonya Peavy serves as Executive Director of Savvy Southern Belle Agency, which she founded in 2012 while residing in New York City.  Having lived in the District of Columbia metropolitan area, (Richmond) Virginia, Western Maryland, and (Brooklyn) New York; she has worked with diverse populations and understand various needs of famly and community.

 

Tonya is a doctoral candidate for a degree in psychology. Tonya combines a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development and a Master of Science  in Counseling Psychology. 

 

When she is not in the classroom as a learner, she is teaching various undergraduate psychology courses as an adjunct iNational Counselor Certificationnstructor (i.e. general psychology, human relations, and health psychology). Besides teaching, Tonya has dedicated her career working as a family psychotherapist to youth and families involved in the juvenile justice systems in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and New York City.  Tonya worked closely with parents of children with problem behaviors and most enjoyed partnering with parents to improve family systems that contribute to disruptive behavior patterns in the home. 

Tonya's areas of expertise include teaching parents techniques to address parental burnout, work-family issues, low self-esteem, improve communication, dealing with difficult behaviors, and implementing behavioral programming in the home. Ms. Peavy's  bag of tools includes behavioral  and family systems approach.  

 

Ms. Peavy is a licensed professional counselor-intern under the supervision of Sherell Hebert, LPC-S.  She is seeking the national counselor certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors.  Ms. Peavy is also proud to be a member of the following organizations:

• Association of Black Psychologists

 

Tonya was raised around the childcare industry in a family who owned and operated a daycare center. At an early age, she was taught the importance of client care and customer satisfaction which was needed to excel in the childcare and mental healthcare business. Tonya looks forward to providing the same premium level of professionalism and service she was taught over her lifespan.
